The famous director said he believed his now estranged 35-year-old daughter believed the allegation.

“She was a good girl and I think she thinks it,” Allen said. “I don’t believe she is making it up. I don’t believe she is lying. I believe she believes it.”

CNN has reached out to Farrow for comment.

Allen, 85, has always denied the allegation and has never been charged. In 1992, a pediatrician treating Dylan Farrow contacted authorities about the claim that Allen had assaulted her. Soon after, Allen filed for custody of his three children, including Dylan, along with Mia Farrow and the media began to chronicle the case, including the allegation.

Investigators concluded at the time that young Farrow had not been abused, according to the New York Times, which was covering the custody proceedings.
At the time, Acting New York State Supreme Court Justice Elliott Wilk “said it was unlikely that Mr. Allen could be prosecuted for sexual abuse on the basis of the evidence,” reported the newspaper. “But while a team of experts concluded that Dylan had not been abused, the judge said he found the evidence inconclusive.”

“I loved my dad,” Farrow said in the 2018 interview. “I respected him. He was my hero. And that obviously doesn’t take anything away from what he did, but it makes the betrayal and hurt even more intense.

Farrow is one of many adopted children by Mia Farrow and one of two Allen’s adopted during her decade-long relationship with the actress.

Younger Farrow alleged her father assaulted her at her mother’s home in Connecticut on August 4, 1992.

Allen told “CBS Sunday Morning” of the allegation “There was no logic at first glance.”

“Why is a guy who is 57 and has never been accused of anything in my life, I will suddenly be driving in the middle of a contentious fight for custody at Mia’s country house,” says- he. “I didn’t even think it needed an investigation.”

He also discussed his relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, who Mia Farrow had adopted him with musician André Previn.

Allen’s relationship with Mia Farrow ended after she discovered nude photos of her then-21-year-old daughter in the then-56-year-old filmmaker’s apartment.

“The last thing in the world that anyone wanted was to hurt anyone’s feelings,” Allen said. “What we wanted to do was finally let it be known that we had a relationship.”

The couple have now been married for 23 years and adopted two daughters who are in college, which Allen said: “They don’t give two little girls to someone they think is a pedophile.”

CNN has reached out to representatives for Allen for further comment.

There has been renewed interest in the allegation following the struggle to publish Allen’s recent autobiography, “Apropos of Nothing,” and the new HBO documentary series, “Allen v. Farrow ”.

HBO is owned by the parent company of CNN.
