World Iceborne will take control of your life in September

Winter is coming on Monster Hunter: World.

I had doubts that I would not feel so inclined to go back into Monster Hunter: the world with its first major expansion, Iceborne. However, as soon as I witnessed the gigantic beasts and the new dynamic location on the snow, I immediately found myself hooked again. Iceborne enhances the already satisfying gameplay by offering players more variety when it comes to destroying monsters; In association with new places to discover, new monsters and a new option of intimidating difficulty, get ready to waste hours of your life. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a ridiculously good extension of what I've seen so far.

My demo at the E3 2019 m had me face two of the newly added monsters. The Tigrex, a monster that returns to the origin Monster Hunter Freedom 2, and Banbaro, who wears two gigantic horns on his head, which gives him the impression of fitting into the mountainous scenery of the game, Hoarfrost Reach. This region is wild and unexplored. It contains new, smaller animals, as well as various caves, snow-capped peaks and dense forests, making it an extremely dynamic place for fighting.

Of course, new items should be used when exploring Hoarfrost Reach. As the region is the coldest place of Monster Hunter: World, you will need to use potions that will prevent your endurance from running out in cold weather. In addition, there are hot springs scattered throughout the landscape where you can take a break and keep cool if you miss these potions.

Banbaro was the kind of introductory monster in my demo, it was obviously not a walk in the park, like no reckless in the movie. Monster Hunter Series can usually lead to your premature death. But the battle was a good point back for me, someone who did not play World since 2018. During the fight against Banbaro, unique mechanisms are at stake, such as a giant ball of rock and snow that can hang on its horns. Being touched by it really hurts, I learned it the hard way. If you feared that one of the most recent beasts of Iceborne would be too familiar with the basic game, you can put these worries aside.

Tigrex, on the other hand, was a much harder enemy, requiring more concentration on my defense than attacking. The beast should be well known to long-time fans of the series because it is one of the monsters to come back. Like some of the other monsters of World, his roar will stop you for a few seconds, which will make your positioning all the more important as he will perform an attack shortly thereafter. This is the type of fight that pushed you to the last minute, making every potion and every tool available to you for your victory. It was certainly not an easy fight, but we managed to reduce it. And as everyone shouted enthusiasm once we won, I realized that the meaning of the reward Monster Hunter World offers is as strong as in 2018.

Valkhana, the newest Dragon Elder in the series, was not available in the demo. Monster Hunter: Iceborne World staged a daunting presence on the show. Capcom took out a huge statue of the beast that I had to cross more than once. I am so excited to confront it once the extension is finally available. Valkhana's design is undeniably cool, and with the promise of its infamous icy blast, it will definitely be a tough opponent to conquer.

Monster Hunter: Iceborne World offers new game mechanics with the clutch claw as well as additional weapon combinations. The Clutch Claw offers players the opportunity to tackle monsters and get close to it with their weapon of choice. Whichever part you decide to hang on; attacking it becomes likely to increase damage, making it a particularly useful tool for breaking specific parts. Plus, you can use the clutch claw to change the direction a monster is facing. A special attack called Flinch Shot will unload all your empty ammo on a monster, which could throw it against walls and other seconds.

As mentioned before, each weapon has received new attacks to which you will have access to combat. Although there are no new types of weapons, these additional skills should make exploring new and current game styles very fun. Personally, I opted for the long sword and the heavy crossbow. Both of them felt familiar from the start, but the new variety of attacks allowed new ways to strategize and explore my options in the heat of the moment.
