Would you trust Samsung's word if the company says it has completely solved Galaxy Fold's problems?

What should have been a gateway to a new form factor for mobile computing devices became a mini-disaster when the review units of the Galaxy Fold began posting problems shortly after they were unpacked. Samsung took a cautious step by taking back these review units to inspect them properly, even though the company had previously demonstrated in a video that its first iteration of foldable smartphones had been tested for its durability a considerable number of times.

In July, Samsung would have eliminated the problems. The changes that the company apparently made include stretching the protective film to cover the entire screen. It will be difficult for users to take off and inflict irreparable damage to the screen. In addition, the hinge has been redesigned by pushing it slightly upward from the screen. All these changes translate into a slightly more durable Galaxy Fold, but would you trust a company that sells you a device for $ 1,980, knowing there is little chance that the same problem will reappear?

This is not the first time that Samsung makes a mistake by launching a product

What is even more surprising in the aforementioned report is that although Samsung has allegedly solved the problem, it has not provided a release date for its Galaxy Fold. In an interview, it was later revealed that DJ Koh, the head of Samsung's mobile division, said he was quick to launch the launch of Galaxy Fold, probably because he wanted the Korean giant to get the right to boast of being the first to unveil a foldable smartphone. This is not the first time he has launched a high-end handset. According to earlier information, Samsung may have rushed the launch of Note 7 in order to stand out from the Apple iPhone 7 unveiled in September 2016.

What followed was a series of catastrophes related to battery explosions, unit recalls and numerous financial losses for Samsung. The problems of Galaxy Fold may not have led to tumultuous setbacks for Samsung like Note 7, but it has certainly placed a huge brick wall on Samsung's vision of the future of the smartphone. While the Korean tech giant still believes that the 5G revolution will accelerate deliveries, there are still some hurdles to overcome when it comes to folding appliances.

One of them is the price and we can expect it in the long run. A previous report indicated that such handsets would remain expensive due to a shortage of key components, but Samsung's biggest rival in the field of Android smartphones, Huawei, believes that these devices will become more affordable. While we too can envision a future where such phones will be part of our lives, today's times will dictate the outcome. Which means that now the only question is sustainability and how long will the Galaxy Fold last in the hands of users, even with the issues addressed?

With a client, there are so many elements at play here and countless reasons why the Galaxy Fold could fail once again. Samsung can not simply rely on its controlled environment to monitor whether the redesigned Galaxy Fold will not present the same problems.

Can Samsung also win the trust of its operator partners?

Companies like Best Buy and AT & T had to cancel Galaxy Fold pre-orders because of persistent unit issues. While AT & T was offering a $ 100 free gift card to its loyal customer, a recent report says the act cost the carrier's giant $ 77 million. There are no other reports about the rest of the operators and if they had to bear similar costs, but the Galaxy Fold has been delayed indefinitely, it has probably damaged the business relationship with Samsung.

It could be argued that AT & T made this decision on its own and that it had to retain its number of subscribers, but if it were cancellations of pre-order Galaxy Fold, this operation would not have to be performed in the first place. The launch of the Galaxy Note 10 is scheduled for August 7, Samsung will sit much on its jewel of the year, and we do not think that the revival of the Galaxy Fold would take place somewhere near the above-mentioned date.
