Fort Lauderdale, Florida Three Star Wide Receiver Dillard Devaughn mortimer has just announced, via Instagram and Twitter, its commitment to Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles.
Mortimer feels the ‘Noles can use it in their attacking plan and he believes he can help FSU clinch wins in the years to come. He decided to guarantee his services to the Noles for these reasons.
“I felt like FSU was the school that could use me,” he explained why he made a commitment to FSU. “They can use me in the right way. They offered me and they know that I can be a high priority in their offense and in their team and help them win.
Since the Seminoles offered the 5-foot-11, 160-pound wide, they’ve been in constant communication, keeping an eye on Mortimer every day.
“They called me every morning,” he said of FSU’s communication. “Watching me and making sure I was staying on track. Keep in touch and make sure I was on the right path. “
Mortimer grew up watching and supporting “Noles”. He describes the ability for him to dress in garnet and gold as surreal.
“It means a lot,” he said of the possibility of playing for FSU. “In fact, I can play for a school that I always wanted to play for as a kid.”
Ryan Bartow, FSU’s new director of high school relations, was instrumental in bringing Mortimer to the state of Florida.
“My relationship with him was very good,” Mortimer said of Bartow. “He was texting me on Twitter every day to see how everything was going with me. We even talked about who has better dance moves.
Mortimer is posing as the nation’s No.604 player and No.76 wide receiver according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Mortimer was selected as the first team for Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald All-Broward 8A-6A. During the 2020 football season, he caught 24 passes for 318 yards and five touchdowns for a Dillard team that went 6-0 and won a 6A-1A class three-county gold level championship after s’ be withdrawn from the FHSAA playoffs. His biggest impact came on special teams where he returned three punters and two kickoffs for touchdowns.
With Mortimer’s promise, Florida State’s 2022 recruiting class drops from 12th to 9th in the country. FSU remains the # 1 recruiting class of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
