WR Kyion Grayes commits to the state of Ohio

The Buckeyes landed the No.11 commitment for their 2022 recruiting class as wide receiver Kyion Grayes from Chandler, Arizona, announced he was heading to the state of Ohio. Grayes, who the Buckeyes offered a scholarship to on Oct.20, had been engaged in Arizona since Aug.11. But the Ohio State offer caught Grayes’ attention and he decided to extricate himself from the Wildcats in early December. Just over two months later, Grayes made a commitment to Buckeyes head coach Ryan day and coach wide receivers Brian hartline.

“Really, it’s just the environment,” Grayes told Bucknuts when asked why he chose Ohio State. “I feel welcome. I am at home with these coaches, the players and the commitments I have with me. I cannot thank everyone enough. It makes me feel like I’m at home with them. I’m very excited. I look forward. “

Grayes chose Ohio State from a list of offers which, in addition to the state of Ohio, includes USC, Penn State, Oregon, Arizona State, Michigan State, Miami and others. Grayes visited the state of Ohio with his parents for the first time this weekend.

“Really just the place,” Grayes said of the deciding factor in his selection of the state of Ohio. “Come to the state of Ohio and see it for myself. My relationship with Coach Hart is very strong. Since he made me the offer, I feel like I know where I want to be.

Day also played an important role in Grayes by choosing the Buckeyes.

“Coach Day is just a phenomenal head coach,” said Grayes. “He and I talk and have long conversations like we are best friends. It’s just crazy to think he has time to do this. It’s just a great feeling.

6-foot-1, 170-pound Grayes is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings. He is No. 108 in the country, No. 14 wide receiver and No. 2 in Arizona.

Grayes, who plays for one of Arizona state’s top football preparation programs, has excellent speed and quickness, excellent burst and poses a threat for a home run.

The Buckeyes look likely to sign three Class 2022 receivers and now have two excellent ones as Caleb burton of Texas had previously engaged in the state of Ohio. Hartline has signed a spectacular group of four 2020 receivers, signed three of the country’s best in the class of 2021, including the country’s No.1 wide receiver in Emeka Egbuka, and now has two very talented Class of 2022.

Hartline and Day have been speaking to Grayes for over four months as well as other Ohio State staff. A number of other Ohio state commitments for 2022 have also recruited Grayes.

“Really Dasan (McCullough) played a big part,” said Grayes. “Bennett (Christian) played a big role. CJ (Hicks) came. We speak daily. Jyaire (Brown), we all talk on a daily basis. I’m happy to be with these guys.

Grayes caught 28 passes for 562 yards and 10 touchdowns as Chandler went undefeated and won the state championship this season. In 13 games in his second season, Grayes caught 48 passes for 883 yards and six touchdowns. He is also an outstanding student with a 3.6 GPA.

Grayes eagerly awaited his arrival in Columbus and began his career at Ohio State.

“Really, I just want to be able to be on the pitch,” Grayes said. “It’s the only thing I’m trying to do. I’m going to take it one year at a time, one day at a time. I’m just gonna work and be the best version of me I can be.
