Wyden asks for more information on trumped source deductions by Trump

Senator Ron Wyden asks for more information on the Trump administration's decision to reject the House Democrats' request to file the president's tax returns.

In a letter released Tuesday, Wyden (D-Ore.) Asked Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to return any communication that his agency allegedly had with White House or Trump's lawyers regarding the request of the president of Ways and Means, Richard Neal (D-Mass.) Last month for returns.

"I am concerned that you are taking unprecedented steps that seriously compromise the ability of Congressional tax-drafting committees to obtain information on tax returns necessary for the exercise of their legislative functions," wrote Wyden.

He sent a separate letter to IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig asking for details of his contacts with the agency's legal staff regarding Neal's application.

The letters arrive one day before Mnuchin and Rettig are summoned to appear before a Senate subcommittee on estimates for the Treasury Department's annual budget request.

Last month, Neal had asked Trump to recoup six years of personal income and some of his business income, under a 95-year-old law, allowing officials of congressional tax committees to review tax information. from anyone.
