The Associated Press reported that the majority of the 74 members of the GOP central committee from member states voted in favor of the censure resolution, with just eight opposing the decision.
The vote, which is largely symbolic, criticizes Cheney for voting to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill without offering the then president a “Formal hearing or due process,” according to the censorship document.
The state party’s vote follows a spate of GOP censorship of nearly a dozen counties in Wyoming.
In response to Saturday’s censorship, Cheney defended his vote to impeach Trump, writing in a statement shared with The Hill that he “was compelled by the oath I took to the Constitution.
“The citizens of Wyoming know that this oath does not bend or yield to politics or partisanship,” Cheney continued. “I will always fight for Wyoming values and stand up for our Western way of life.”
“I am honored to represent the people of Wyoming in Congress and will always fight for the issues that matter most to our state. The defense of our Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees is at the forefront, ”she declared.
Republican No.3 continued, “We have great challenges ahead of us as we move forward and fight the disastrous policies of the Biden administration. I look forward to continuing to work with the officials and citizens of Wyoming to be the most effective voice and advocate for our families, industries and communities. “
The Wyoming GOP did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
Cheney last month was one of 10 GOP lawmakers to back Trump’s charge on one count of inciting a violent mob attack on the U.S. Capitol. Several people have died amid the chaos, including Capitol Hill cop Brian Sicknick, and two other officers who responded to the riots have since died by suicide.
At least five other Republicans who voted with Cheney in favor of impeachment have been censored or reprimanded by the state or by local Republican parties, including Trump’s vocal critic Rep. Adam kinzinger

Cheney this week push back a push to remove it of his leadership position in Congress, with the vote of House Republicans 145-61 by secret ballot. The vote followed a closed-door “family discussion” in the basement of the Capitol Visitor Center, where dozens of House Republicans expressed their frustrations with representing Wyoming, the most powerful GOP in Congress, and called for his removal from the conference presidency.
