Wyze’s new color-changing LED bulbs cost $ 35 for a pack of four

Wyze announced on Tuesday the highly anticipated Wyze Bulb Color, a welcome $ 8 counterpart. Wyze bulb. The Seattle-based startup is known for its affordable home products, from security cameras at thermostats and more. Over the past year, Wyze has been particularly busy adding the Wyze Cam v3, the Wyze Cam outdoors, the Wyze thermostat, the Wyze video doorbell, The Wyze noise canceling headphones, the Wyze robot vacuum, the Wyze sprinkler controller and one Wyze Home Monitoring Service.

But Wyze has been a bit slow to introduce additional lighting products. This is especially true given the success of the Wyze bulb, which won a CNET Editors’ Choice Award for its high performance, excellent value for money, and optional voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant smart speakers and screens.

The Wyze Bulb Color has the same Alexa and Google Assistant capabilities, same Wi-Fi connectivity, dimming, and white light color temperature settings as the Wyze bulb. But this product has a peak output of 1100 lumens compared to the 800 lumens of the Wyze Bulb. That’s roughly the difference between a 75W and 60W incandescent bulb in terms of brightness.

Among Most Affordable Color Changing Smart Bulbs available now, Cree’s Connected Max 60W Replacement LED is our current favorite. Like the Wyze bulb color, Cree’s LED works via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so there is no hub. But at 800 lumens and $ 10 per bulb, the Cree light is a bit more expensive and, at least by Wyze’s specs, it’s not as bright. We’ll have to test Wyze’s new color-changing bulb ourselves to see how it stands up to the competition in practice.

Wyze Bulb Color works in the Wyze app, which has a simple interface, easy planning (although I would like them to introduce a sunrise / sunset feature), and optional integration with other Wyze products.

The pre-order period for the Wyze Bulb Color ends on March 9. After that, four packs will continue to cost $ 35 for Wyze Cam Plus subscribers, but will drop to $ 40 if you’re not. Since Cam Plus is an optional subscription service for Wyze security camera customers, it’s odd that the price of the LED is tied to Cam Plus. Either way, the $ 5 increase will bring the regular retail price in line with Cree Connected’s $ 10 per bulb.
