Xbox Game Pass at around 30 million subscribers says 2K boss Phil Spencer plays Coy

Microsoft has been pushing its Xbox Game Pass service as hard as it can get throughout 2021, but how many subscribers do they actually have? The last time we heard it in January this year, Xbox Game Pass had 18 million subscribers, but the number has surely grown since then. Well, it looks like the number of subscribers is approaching a pretty big milestone!

In a recent Yahoo Finance “fireside chat” with Xbox boss Phil Spencer and 2K Games boss Strauss Zelnick, the latter blurted out that the Xbox Game Pass now has “around 30 million” dollars. subscriptions. The always sneaky Spencer didn’t take the hook, simply referring to the 18 million figure released in January, but he also didn’t take down Zelnick’s figure, remaining jovial throughout the exchange, which I have transcribed below.

Echo Generation Brings Stylish Canadian Fun to PC, Xbox, and Game Pass in October

Strauss Zelnick: Phil didn’t showcase his own service which is impressive considering he could have … but you have around $ 30 million [Xbox Game Pass] Phil submarines, right? Something like that?

Phil Spencer: The last public number we announced was the 18th [million].

Zelnick: Oh, for some reason I thought …

Host: But is it really 30?

Zelnick: It’s over 18. The point is, it’s a big number anyway.

So, is it possible that Strauss Zelnick just got it wrong? It is possible, but I doubt it. If anyone outside of Microsoft were to have Game Pass subscriber numbers, it would be Zelnick, with 2K Games and franchises like GTA V and NBA 2K having runs on the service. Also, if you watch the actual video (skip around 34:30), Spencer’s body language certainly doesn’t indicate that he thinks Zelnick is far away. Hopefully we will have an official update on Game Pass subscribers soon.

You can check out the latest additions to Xbox Game Pass here. Marvel’s Avengers will also join the service tomorrow.
