Just as the folks at Sony get a glimpse into the future with their latest State of Play event, Xbox gamers can’t log in at all because the online service is suffering from a major outage. The latest 5 p.m. ET update says Microsoft is working on the issue, but is not providing any type of ETA as of yet. According to the Xbox Live Status page, the outage started around 3:15 p.m. ET, and there is no indication that anything is improving yet.
Update: At 5:10 p.m. ET, the latest status page update says “we’re about to fix this”, so wait.
Update 2: 15 minutes later, and the status is still “near” so hopefully playing offline (go to network settings and select “go offline”) works for you, otherwise even single player games are out of the question for the moment.
Update 3 (6:00 p.m.): It’s been almost three hours, and while the status still says a resolution is near, everything is still offline.
We are aware that users may not be able to sign in to Xbox Live at this time. Our teams are currently studying to resolve this problem. We’ll update here and at https://t.co/PzAdjUFMJj when we have more information to share!
