Lucy Lawless, perhaps better known as ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’, kicks ass and names names, as usual.
Yesterday, the New Zealand-born actor took to Twitter and chose verbal abuse – against another actor of mythical proportions Kevin Sorbo, who many remember as TV’s “Hercules”. The two ’90s icons were known for their series crossovers, in which the two characters would defeat all manner of folk monsters and fairytale villains.
But in the real world, Lawless aims to defeat another kind of rival: baseless claims about the rioters on Capitol Hill.
Sorbo tweeted a response to a surreal portrait of three protesters who rushed to Capitol Hill, including prominent conspiracy theorist Jake Angeli, widely known as this dude who appeared in DC shirtless and heavily painted red, white and blue, wearing a horned headdress, draped in fur.
“They don’t look like patriots to me,” Sorbo said on Jan.6, in a retweet shared by Rogan O’Handley, a DC lawyer with #MAGA in his profile. “Does this sound like Trump supporters? Or leftist agitators disguised as Trump supporters… ”O’Handley asked in his original tweet.
“No, Peanut,” Lawless replied – condescendingly – to Sorbo’s retweet, continuing his and O’Handley’s unsubstantiated claims. “They are not patriots. These are your flying monkeys, local terrorists, QAnon actors. These are the assholes who go out and do the wrong things of people like you who like to coil them up like toys and let them do their worst.
She concluded with the hashtags #KeepingYourFilthyHandsClean and #enabler.
The original claim that the photo of the disguised Antifa actors was also slapped with a warning from Twitter, reading in part: “There is no evidence to date to prove that the Antifa activists were part of the crowd that entered the building on Wednesday, according to the facts – auditors from Snopes, PolitiFact, BuzzFeed News and other organizations. “
Lawless’s replica has since went viral with 42,000 likes and nearly 10,000 retweets – so popular that even his fans have reaped the residue.
“Lucy Lawless, as tough as her namesake. I love her forever, ” wrote Timo Tjahjanto, which has nearly 40,000 likes based on Lawless’s linguistic whip.
“Xena Folding Hercules is the content I’m here for ™”, tweeted @valhallabckgirl. His praise also garnered 32,000 likes.
Comedian Patton Oswalt also shared a screenshot of the exchange with Sorbo. “DAAAMN @RealLucyLawless,” he tweeted, alongside three “100 point” emojis.
