The revived XFL today unveiled the names and logos of its eight teams, the Los Angeles Wildcats representing the City of Angels and the New York Guardians on the other side.
Other teams in the league include the Dallas Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, St. Louis BattleHawks, Seattle Dragons, Tampa Bay Vipers and Washington Defenders. The league plans a kickoff for February 2020 and will play in stadiums hosting the NFL, Major League Baseball and football in the past.
Now that the league structure is on track, players are needed. The pool session is over and the league has already hired its first player, quarterback Landry Jones. He has not been assigned to a team yet. The league is also considering the NFL deadline in September, when teams must limit themselves to a list of 53 players and a 10-man training team. The league will host a repechage in October for players and training camps in January 2020.
A new rules book is also available. The XFL promises to reinvigorate the game, like its predecessor, including an accelerated game with a shorter clock.
The XFL has agreements with ESPN and Fox for the broadcasting of its games, along with ABC. The matches will be held on Saturday and Sunday for the league.
The first XFL only lasted one season in 2001. This time, league founder and wrestling mogul Vince McMahon and his chosen commissioner, Oliver Luck, have promised a safer and more entertaining league .
