Eight months after launching the Mi 8, Xiaomi is launching a new version with upgraded hardware and a new aesthetic. The Mi 9 is Xiaomi's first flagship product in 2019, and it is easy to see that the manufacturer has redoubled its efforts to remain competitive in this affordable flagship. What has not changed, however, is Xiaomi's aggressive pricing policy, with the Mi 9 starting at just $ 445.

It's amazing when you know that the Mi 9 is one of the first devices to be powered by the latest Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 offers significant performance improvements over the outgoing Snapdragon 845 , which was not left out to begin with, and the 7nm node pass dramatically improves the platform's energy efficiency.

The bulk of the work consists of two Kryo 485 cores clocked at 2.84 GHz, with two other Kryo 485 cores at 2.42 GHz. Then, four Kryo 485 kernels clocked at 1.8 GHz are installed during energy-efficient tasks. The Adreno 640 graphics processor also offers a noticeable improvement in performance. In general, the Mi 9 is one of the fastest phones on the market.

For $ 445, you will not find a phone that is close to Mi 9.

Xiaomi has opted for a gradient at the back, the Mi 9 moving between several shades of blue depending on the light reflected from its surface. The effect is no different from what we have seen in the past of Honor and Huawei for example, but it serves to distinguish the Mi 9 from its predecessors.

The Mi 9 will also feature a Game Turbo feature that will trigger automatically when launching a game. As we have seen, for example, Huawei, Game Turbo allows the device to maintain performance optimal for long periods of time, which allows for higher frame rates.

The Mi 9 includes a 6.39-inch FHD + AMOLED panel from Samsung, with a water drop cut-out for the front camera, and Xiaomi introduces the 2.0 playback mode and light control mode of the camera. Sun 2.0 as differentiators on the side of the display. The panel is covered with a layer of glass Gorilla Glass 6 and Xiaomi offers a built-in fingerprint sensor.

A 48MP rear camera that beats Pixel 3 and Galaxy Note 9.

Also new, a triple camera on the back, with a 48MP f / 1.75 main camera connected to a 16MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto shooter. On the front, there is a 20MP camera with HDR.

If the series of photos teased by Xiaomi in recent weeks is an indication, the Mi 9 will be able to fend for itself in this category. The people of DxOMark looked at the camera early, and the overall score of 107 means that the Mi 9 beat the likes of Pixel 3 and Galaxy Note 9.

Xiaomi has introduced wireless charging into its devices last year and the Mi 9 comes with a fast wireless charging option of up to 20W. The 3300mAh battery should easily last all day, and when you need to plug it in, the supplied wall unit charges to 27W. With the arrival of the Mi 9 in the UK and on other Western markets, Xiaomi offers a dedicated button to invoke Google Assistant.

The Mi 9 will be available in purple, blue and black color options, and Xiaomi will also sell a version with a transparent cover on the back, as it did with the Mi 8. This particular option will come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and will cost the equivalent of $ 600 in China. The base variant of the Mi 9 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage will cost only $ 445, making it an absolute flight. The version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will be sold in the country for $ 490.

Xiaomi will be presenting the Mi 9 next week at the Mobile World Congress, so stay tuned for our hands-on coverage of the event.

In the meantime, what do you think of Mi 9?
