Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 9 in China earlier in the day, the device being the first Chinese manufacturer to fly three cameras in the back. There is a 48MP / 1.75 main camera connected by a 16MP wide angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens that offers 2x zoom.
The camera configuration looks impressive on paper and Xiaomi's claims that the Mi 9 takes better pictures than the iPhone XS Max have now been backed up by DxOMark. During his tests on the Mi 9 camera, DxOMark found that the phone was taking "high quality still images in almost any situation", which gave a photo score of 112.
Overall, the phone managed to score 107, allowing it to beat Google Pixel 3 and the Galaxy Note 9, with scores of 101 and 103 respectively. From DxOMark:
The target exposure is always perfectly focused and the camera records pleasant colors with accurate white balance, no shading or other color problems. Sound levels are very well controlled under bright light and in typical indoor conditions, and only go up in low light; and the autofocus system works quickly and accurately in almost all circumstances.
The Mi 9 also performed well in low light conditions, with DxOMark seeing its flash performance as "the best we've seen on a smartphone to date." The company also praised the camera's portrait and telephoto modes.

The Xiaomi is the first camera we have tested that records 4K footage by default, which to some extent explains the excellent rendering of details in bright light and when recording indoors. At the same time, it keeps the noise levels low under these conditions.
Impressively, the image stabilization system is able to keep things smooth, even with the high resolution output of the Mi 9. The system works effectively when you hold the cameras still and when you walk during the camera. ;recording.
The Mi 9 is expected to go on sale in China in the coming weeks and head to global markets in the next quarter. The price of the device is all the more impressive: at just $ 515, the Mi 9 equates to almost half the price of other flagship DxOMark products.
