Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Terez Paylor passed away suddenly Tuesday at the age of 37.
“While we are shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Terez Paylor, we are also celebrating his extraordinary life which has touched so many people,” his fiancee Ebony Reed said in a statement. “Terez was an exceptional journalist whose passion for football made him a respected voice. His legacy will leave a lasting impact on sports journalism, the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans.
“Most importantly, Terez was a devoted son, grandson, brother, adoring fiancee, and wonderful friend to so many people. To know him was to love him. He will be sorely missed.
His cause of death was not immediately revealed.
The Detroit native began his writing career after graduating from Howard University in 2006, moving from high school Kansas City Star athletic pace to Chiefs coverage – writing about AFL track and field, from MLS and the University of Missouri.
“Hearing the news of Terez’s passing is heartbreaking,” the Chiefs communications team said in a statement via Twitter. “He was so young and full of life, he always wanted to do good through people. Many of us in the Chiefs organization have had the opportunity over the years to build a friendship with him, including our players, coaches and staff, and he was an amazing person with the right attitude and l ‘integrity. He was very proud of his stories, was also immersed in the study of X’s and Bones and cinema, and we all had the chance to enjoy these conversations with him. Beyond that, he was always quick to ask questions about your family and was genuinely interested in the answer you gave. He was a true professional and a great man with a bright future ahead of him. In 2018, the Pro Football Hall of Fame voter joined Yahoo Sports, where their coverage included Super Bowl 2021 on Sunday.
“We are sorry to hear that our friend and teammate Terez Paylor has passed away,” Yahoo Sports editor Johnny Ludden said in a statement. “Terez was a stubborn and caring journalist to many who knew him in the NFL. For us, he was a friend who always had a warm smile and a kind word. He cared deeply for this family, was passionate about his work, and remained extremely proud of his roots in Detroit and Kansas City. Our sympathy goes out to Terez’s family and to everyone who knew and loved.
Paylor is survived by his fiancée Reed and his parents.
