Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, last seen as Black Manta in the hit movie WB / DC Comics Aquaman, is in talks to assume the leading role in the Candyman continued by MGM and producers Jordan Peele via his banner Monkeypaw Productions and Win Rosenfeld. Nia DaCosta is at the helm and creates a screenplay co-written by Peele and Rosenfeld.

The revival of the 1992 horror classic is presented as a "spiritual sequel" to the original and returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now gentrified Chicago part where Cabrini-Green housing projects were once.

Candyman aka Daniel Robitaille, originally played by Tony Todd, is an urban legend who is invited to kill when his name is repeated five times by a person in front of a mirror.

The photo should be released in cinemas on June 12, 2020. MGM produces and finances. Adam Rosenberg and Tabitha Shick oversee production for the studio, while Ian Cooper will produce for Monkeypaw.

Abdul-Mateen II is part of the main cast of the upcoming HBO series created by Damon Lindelof guardianand also plays a role in Peele's much anticipated horror thriller We.

He is taken over by Gersh and Anonymous Content.

Variety was the first to report this casting.
