Sega officially unveiled Thursday the upcoming game of its Yakuza action games franchise and delivered a startling twist: Yakuza 7 is abandoning the beat action for turn-based role-playing mechanics.
Yakuza 7: Where are the light and the darkness, as it is said in Japan, will bring about other great changes. The main protagonist is Ichiban Kasuga, a yakuza who spends 18 years in prison after falling victim to the fall of his boss. After being abandoned by his clan – and after his leader, Masumi Arakawa, attempts to assassinate him – Kasuga finds himself in Yokohama, the place of Yakuza 7.
You can watch the trailer in Japanese for Yakuza 7 above. Below, an overview of the new combat system:
(Funny way, Sega took his first steps Yakuza 7Turn-based in April, in what was generally thought of as an April Fool's joke.)
Yakuza 7 arrives on the PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 16, 2020. A Western version, under the name of Yakuza: like a dragon, is scheduled for later in 2020.
