Legend of the mediaHow Admissions to US Universities Are Broken

Yale University has revoked the admission of a student whose family is accused of spending $ 1.2 million (£ 907,000) in a bribery scheme to ensure his admission.

A former football coach allegedly accepted a $ 400,000 bribe to fraudulently mark the non-sports student as a rookie.

The case is linked to the same cheating scandal that captured celebrity parents Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman earlier this month.

The Connecticut elite university said that she was investigating the matter.

Female football coach Rudy Meredith, who resigned last November, was one of 50 people accused of scamming charges of admission to the university.

The university's website indicates that Mr. Meredith allegedly "provided fraudulent sports endorsements to only two candidates; one was denied admission despite the downline and the the other was admitted ".

Yale will not name the student whose admission was canceled, but the university confirmed the case on Monday.

The Ivy League University, as well as other large schools such as the University of Southern California, Stanford and Georgetown, have been targeted by the allegedly organized scam by Rick Singer's brain.

The alleged scheme was to help students cheat on entrance exams and to admit non-athletic students to fake sports scholarships.

The Yale student family allegedly paid Mr. Singer $ 1.2 million to bribe Mr. Meredith in 2017. The two men were working together on corruption scams. since about 2015, according to court documents.

Mr. Singer sent Mr. Meredith a copy of the student's curriculum vitae by November 2017, stating that he would "review" the applicant's art portfolio in "football".

Mr. Meredith would later mark the applicant as a rookie of his team, "while he knew, as he knew at the time, [the student] did not play competitive football ".

Once the student admitted in 2018, Mr. Meredith received Mr. Singer's $ 400,000 check, prosecutors said.

Last year, Meredith was reportedly arrested by the FBI, who reportedly asked for another $ 450,000 bribe to nominate a candidate for Yale as a sports rookie.

He is scheduled to appear in court later this week.

Celebrities involved in Mr. Singer's project, as well as targeted schools, are now being sued by parents and students.
