Yale University: US drops discrimination case

The DOJ did not explain why it was dropping the case in its brief filing in a federal court in Connecticut.

The lawsuit was originally filed in October when the ministry, headed by then Attorney General William Barr, alleged: “Yale rejects dozens of Asian and White applicants every year based on their race.”

The decision to drop this trial is the latest move by the Biden administration to change its position in several cases pending in federal courts across the country. The new administration also recently asked the Supreme Court to stay arguments in cases involving the US-Mexico border wall and US asylum policy.

The case against Yale follows a similar case against Harvard University, where an anti-affirmative action group sued the university claiming that its admissions practices discriminated against American students d Asian origin. Lower courts have ruled that Harvard does not discriminate in its admissions decisions.

The Trump administration has filed the lawsuit against Yale as part of its push against universities that consider race in admission decisions.

This story is breaking and will be updated.
