The Yankees were coming off an ugly road trip, while the Mets finished their recent home run with four wins out of five.
The two teams then met Tuesday afternoon in the Bronx and things went as planned: the Yankees beat the Mets by the fight 12 to 5 in the first match of a double division after Monday's game delayed because of bad weather.
And although there have been many great moments in the Subway series years, it was not among them, as the Yankees overcame a multitude of mistakes because the Mets in have done almost as much.
Luke Voit led Zack Wheeler to give the Yankees a decisive lead in the fourth quarter.
This helped Masahiro Tanaka to defeat a third round of four points, the right-hander allowing at least four races earned for a third consecutive outing. Unlike his previous two starts, the Yankees have won this one – mainly because the Mets played a brutal game and Wheeler was once again burned by his circuits.
After Didi Gregorius doubled in the opposite match, with a withdrawal in the second, he scored on a Kendrys Morales single in the opposite direction to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Morales had only three hits in his previous 33 games.
Tanaka, who had six days of rest following the birth of his daughter on Friday, withdrew the first six batters he faced until Amed Rosario made a mistake in throwing the ball. Gregorius.
Tomas Nido followed with a single in the center to put the runners at the corners without any absent player.
A song "Let's Go Mets" erupted in the stands with Juan Lagares at the plate. Lagares hit the center of the field and Gregorius paused in the game, but the ball jumped from his glove for an opposing side kick that scored Rosario.

Aaron Hicks ran aground at the start, where Pete Alonso threw the ball, but he recovered and got LeMahieu to the second.
Wheeler then caught Voit for the second outing and Gary Sanchez pushed a straight to right, just behind a McNeil diver, to drive to Gardner.
The Yankees drew in fourth place when Gio Urshela scored his fifth of the season, a two-point pass that followed another Morales single. Urshela had three hits in the match.
They took the lead later in the game, thanks in part to the costly mistake of scoring two goals on a LeMahieu scorer in third place. Hicks walked to bring Voit to the plate with the runners on the first and third.
After Wheeler was visited by Dave Eiland, shot put coach, Voit shot a two-out three-point shot on the right-hand bleachers to allow the Yankees to score 7-4.
The Yankees added to their lead in fifth place, while Morales made a left double that J.D. Davis could not afford. Urshela then chooses to leave to score Morales. Gardner's hat-trick hit Urshela and continued Wheeler's worst performance of the season.
Tanaka cleared another round in the sixth on a Rosario RBI single.
