Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he was hopeful the fan who hit Red Sox star Alex Verdugo with a baseball from the left-field bleachers was sitting in a jail cell late on Saturday night.
But he wasn’t.
The fan was not arrested after security kicked him out of Yankee Stadium, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department told NJ Advance Media on Sunday morning.

Verdugo had his back to the fans when a baseball came in and hit him in the back. He turned around and bit the fans and had to be restrained by his teammates and the referees.
Other fans have reported the man who threw the ball to safety, who escorted him out of the stands, according to several videos posted on social media. The fan wore a Yankees shirt.
A message to the Yankees for information regarding further punishment for the fan was not immediately returned. Some fans on social media have called for the man to be banned for life from the stadium.
Verdugo said hitting him with a baseball crossed the line.
“I expect it when I’m here,” Verdugo said. “Garbage, family education, everybody singing, excuse my language, ‘F — Verdugo’ and all that stuff, I’m used to that. I do not care. It’s cool with me.
Boone said he texted manager Alex Cora to apologize to Verdugo for the incident.
“It’s horrible, embarrassing, unacceptable,” Boone said.
