NEW YORK – Gleyber Torres had a decisive brace in the eighth inning, taking the Yankees to a 7-3 victory that completed a three-game Rangers sweep on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
Torres big reliever Spencer Patton brought home Joey Gallo, who scored a two-way trade with a double bloop to left field. Torres dived safely into home plate after a mistake by second baseman Yonny Hernandez, and Gary Sánchez followed with a two-run homer in midfield.
The Yankees (86-67) won half a game ahead of the Blue Jays (85-67) for second place in the American League Wild Card while remaining 1 1/2 games behind the Red Sox (87- 65). New York and Boston are scheduled to start a three-game showdown on Friday at Fenway Park.
