The Yankees won the battle of New York for veteran reliever Justin Wilson.
The southpaw agreed to a deal with the Yankees on Monday, Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed, after also attracting interest from the Mets.
The terms of the deal, which awaits a physical examination, were not immediately clear.
Wilson, 33, pitched for the Mets the past two seasons and spent the 2015 season in the Bronx.
Wilson pitched a 2.91 ERA in 58 ² / ₃ innings during his two seasons with the Mets. In what has been a fairly quiet offseason for the Yankees, Wilson joins Darren O’Day as the Yankees box additions. The Yankees traded Adam Ottavino and most of his $ 9 million contract to the Red Sox to open free agent dollars.
The Mets’ survey pen suffered a potentially critical blow with news that Seth Lugo had been shut down for six weeks while recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The Mets have added veterans Mike Montgomery and Tommy Hunter as unregistered guests for spring training.
