Almost two months after its announcement at Apple’s event in October, the new MagSafe Duo charger is now available to order on Apple’s website. The new charger allows users to charge both iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time.
Yesterday we announced that an Apple reseller in Switzerland has started offering the MagSafe Duo charger for pre-order with an estimated delivery on December 21st. The accessory is now officially available for order on Apple’s website in the United States.
The MagSafe charger and MagSafe Duo charger were announced with the iPhone 12 in October, but only the regular MagSafe charger has been available since then. Apple only said the MagSafe Duo charger would be available “at a later date.”
MagSafe Duo is Apple’s attempt to replace the AirPower, which has been discontinued without even being released. While not as ambitious as its failed predecessor, MagSafe Duo allows users to charge an Apple Watch and iPhone or AirPods with a wireless charging case at the same time.
The MagSafe Duo charger costs $ 129 in the US and requires a USB-C power adapter sold separately. While it works with the 20W USB-C adapter, it will be limited to wireless charging up to 11W. Apple recommends using a 27W or greater USB-C power adapter to achieve up to 14W of wireless charging.
Currently, Apple says that MagSafe Duo will ship with one business day, but that could change in the coming days if a significant number of customers order the accessory.
