You can now talk to Google Maps aloud

It may be a British affair, but many of us seem reluctant to use voice control in different ways. For example, we never see anyone say, "Hey Google, what's on my calendar?" or "what is the weather like?" (Maybe we all do it in secret) – but Google has just announced a perfectly logical integration even on these more reserved shores.

Starting today, Google Maps works with Assistant in the UK, which means you can say things like "Hey Google, get me to work" (which unfortunately does not result in a helicopter in front of your door) and "Hey Google, bring me to the nearest gas station" to get directions.

Honestly, the phrasing "Take me" is a bit odd because it implies that Google takes care of the driver, which is obviously not the case. "Guide me" would make more sense, but it's less natural. Because talking aloud to applications is already so natural.

The voice integration in Maps will be extremely convenient for anyone who uses his phone to navigate while driving – but this is also likely to be a blow for businesses and satellite navigation applications.

Talking to Google Maps while you are navigating automatically updates the destination, and you can still perform other hands-free tasks, such as "Hey Google, text message I'm late" and "Hey Google, read my driving list.

Google Card Wizard is currently available on iOS and Android (you may need to update your app to see it). It can also be disabled in Google Maps settings if you do not want it.
