ORLANDO – The madness continues.
Do you want to stop it?
Bats them.
Do you want the daring, irrepressible and undefeated UCF Knights to end up in the playoff conversation?
Bats them.
Stanford was not too tight on Saturday at Spectrum Field. The Bounce House of the UCF, No. 17, rebounded a lot as the 3-0 Knights won a convincing 45-27 win. A statement against a Power Five team for the little train that could.
"A big win for the program," said UCF coach Josh Heupel.
We can not stop the train.
We can not close it.
The UCF and its fans on Twitter may think that they have the best team in the state.
To disagree?
Someone has beaten them.
Someone no matter who.
The University of Central Firestarter is again the main nail dragging on the blackboard of college football.
Do you want to stop?
Bats them.
Instead, win 25 regular-season wins in the most overflowing and irritating college football program in the United States. UCF, infuriating UCF, could be new.
"Pretty simple today. We were beaten by a very good football team, "said Stanford coach David Shaw. "The whole group of five is talking, I do not know what it is. It does not matter What matters is that they have talent, they have speed. They have playmakers and they are a tough team … one of the best teams in America in the last two years. They do not need a declaration of victory.
Or maybe you prefer to be USF, where Charlie Strong needed a win against the state of South Carolina on Saturday – the state of South Carolina.
Or maybe you prefer to be Florida State, where coach Willie Taggart is so desperate that he has brought Jungle Jim Leavitt back to our state. They will dust the FSU players for Leavitt's fingerprints in a short time.
Meanwhile, the UCF could run to the table this regular season and come back 12-0. He could go 13-0. It could be in the conversation, albeit outside, shouting, which seems to be the UCF's role in life.
This makes people crazy, those who say that the UCF, excluded by the playoff system, has been proclaimed national champion after its perfect year 2017, with stadium signage.
It's amazing sometimes to see how fast the Knights have moved from a fascinating story to a tired story, from darling to nasty. Cinderella drives a steamroller.
The UCF, despite all its prowess, is the team that people want to see lose as much as Alabama and Clemson. UCF has a chip on her shoulder and when she does not have it, she makes one.
Go in already.
No.
UCF is the thing that would not die.
The Knights were perfect in 2017 and are close again last season before falling to LSU in a bowl game.
They will have to be perfect again to get a shot of PFC.
Can they just lose already?
They can not.
People will join hands and try to minimize Saturday's victory. Stanford had just been drugged by USC. It would take something more to make a statement.
Leave it to UCF.
The Knights led 21-0 to the 7-0 attack, guided by the real quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who had attended the same high school in Hawaii as McKenzie Milton, of the UCF. Milton helped recruit Gabriel to the continent.
Gabriel was 22-of-30 for 347 yards and four touchdowns. It must be a high school. These will be scalping tickets for 10-year meetings. Do not be afraid, anyone, but Milton has never been so talented in the first year.
"He was helpless," Heupel said of Gabriel.
Apparently, it does not matter who plays the quarterback at UCF. Knights averaged 604 yards and 51 points per game. Heupel would not name his starting quarterback before the match. UCF likes to play with people. It understands you.
A quick glance at the Knights' remaining schedule indicates that they should be favored to win everything, including when the USF rushes to the Thanksgiving weekend. Two years ago, UCF-USF was a classic. Now, these are two programs on different planets.
UCF will have to win and get a lot of help from Power Five. The best shot of the Knights may have been 2017. But they may get closer, enough for us to hear them bang on the door.
"Just win, baby." This should be the slogan of the UCF, and this would be the case if Heupel was good at slogans. Or speak. Heupel makes his predecessor at UCF, the guy who started it all, the laconic Scott Frost, looks like a man of song and dance.
There are no words and music needed at the present time. The song really stays the same for the Orlando hometown team, whether we like to listen or not.
"I felt we had just done our job," said Gabriel.
The little train that could thunder.
