You won’t be able to move New World characters between regions after all

New World’s server transfer system will not be as flexible as initially suggested. Amazon initially said that players could switch between servers in different regions, allowing you to move a character, say, from a North American server to a European server. Yesterday they confirmed that was not the case.

Amazon’s MMO has proven to be so popular that players have faced long queues to join its servers. To facilitate the queue, Amazon suggested that players should join a server with a low population, while the development team has prioritized a new feature that would allow players to transfer characters between servers.

The idea was: play on any server for now, and you can switch to the server your friends are on in a few weeks. A tweet from the official New World account stated clearly that, “Yes, you can move between regions if you want to. ”

Yesterday, a New World community manager offered an update on the server transfer feature. The main news was that the update was delayed until next week, but it also states that you “can move your character to any world in your region”. Then a “server transfer questions” thread says it more clearly:

So the “forward to any server” reporting issues weren’t true?

Unfortunately, the original information provided was incorrect.

This is obviously bad news for players who have just invested dozens of hours in a character they can no longer move to play with friends.

It’s a shame, because besides being popular, Alice B quite appreciates it in her ongoing New World review.
