The next edition of EA’s FIFA game series promises to be a lot more realistic thanks to incredible AI-driven motion technology. FIFA 22 was developed using HyperMotion technology, a new technique that combines real-world inputs and machine learning to allow the game engine to generate massively more realistic simulations of ball control, ball contact, players and ambient behavior.
The development promises to be a game-changer, so to speak, for FIFA 22 aerial duels, making ball control more fluid and natural, while increasing the realism of off-ball behavior during matches. If you’re hoping to get the latest from Sony so you can experience it all, here’s where to buy a PS5.
So what exactly did they do? EA asked 22 professional footballers to wear Xsens MVN Link suits on the pitch in order to record their movements with every touch, tackle, sprint and duel. They’ve captured a vast database of actual motion – 8.7 million footage frames – to help define how players move in the new game.
The data was then used to create over 4,000 animations via a proprietary machine learning algorithm that learns from the input data and creates new motion patterns in real time. EA says the result is “the most realistic, smooth and responsive football experience” to date.
For now, some fans remain skeptical of the hype. @ StarLorde28 commented on Twitter: “I just wish for a year they were like ‘here’s all the things wrong last year that we fixed and added this year” instead of trying to sell it like “that looks more real this year! ” @erwinmarlinm tweeted: “This trailer sucks. Too many shaking ‘action’ shots. No gameplay enhancements shown. Lots of shaky cutscenes interspersed with actual practice footage. Strong message without substance. “
What is also causing some controversy among fans is that, according to EA, the game will only be available with HyperMotion technology for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S and Stadia due to the AI technology involved. and the power to experience it.
FIFA 22 is slated for release on October 1, 2021. It is available for pre-order now.
