Youngkin reacts to McAuliffe’s admission that Biden sinks in Virginia

Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin, locked in a race to the margin of error with former Democratic Gov. Terence McAuliffe this fall, told Fox News he was not surprised his opponent admitted that President Biden’s popularity is collapsing in the Old Dominion.

On “The Story,” host Martha MacCallum noted that Biden had won Virginia by more than 10 points, and contrasted that with McAuliffe’s admission during a leaked video conference with Democratic activists who “wind up in the face of Washington “and” Biden [being] unpopular in Virginia “could hurt his campaign if they didn’t get the vote.

McAuliffe, a longtime Bill and Hillary Clinton confidant who predated outgoing limited-term governor Ralph Northam, leads Youngkin by 4 points or less in a state that recently saw its legislature switch Democratic, and has had no Republican governor or American senators in a decade.

“President Biden is unpopular because he fails as president,” Youngkin said.

“We looked at what happened in Afghanistan. He completely abandoned the Americans, our military and our allies; the Afghans who were neck and neck with us. There is a complete failure at the border. It is ruining our economy.

Youngkin argued that McLean’s McAuliffe is also touting controversial policies – underscoring his statement during a debate in Alexandria, Va. That parents should not be able to interfere with the school curriculum.

“President Biden fails. Terry McAuliffe, he fails too. It’s not just Joe Biden. But it is [McAuliffe’s] position on these most important issues. Put the government between parents and their children, ”he said.

MacCallum noted that in breaking reports some Virginia Democrats have asked Northam to waive the witness signature requirement on mail-in ballots for the Nov. 2 race due to coronavirus concerns.

Fairfax County Board Chairman Jeffrey McKay, D-Huntington, proposed the letter at Thursday’s supervisors meeting.

Youngkin responded that the system should stay as it is because early voting is already three weeks away.

Northam lifted the Commonwealth’s COVID emergency order, but Fairfax’s is still in place at the county level.

Youngkin reiterated that Virginians are simply “ready to vote”.

“His campaign fails because of Terry McAuliffe,” he concluded. “Yes, the complete failure of Joe Biden as our president adds to it.”

MacCallum said McAuliffe was asked to refute the program.

The only other gubernatorial race this year is in New Jersey, between incumbent Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy and Somerville Republican Jack Ciattarelli.
