In honor of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” music video which reached 1 billion views on YouTube, as well as the song’s cultural impact, YouTube and Google Creative Lab designed “Infinite Bad Guy” as “the world’s first infinite video clip ”.

In the past two years since Billie Eilish released her hit “Bad Guy,” tens of thousands of creators from around the world and from all fields of creativity – and they mean all – created their own covers of the iconic song and uploaded them to YouTube. In an ambitious experiment, announced today on the YouTube blog, Google Creative Lab collected all the videos and, using machine learning techniques, bundled them into a project they dubbed “Infinite Bad Guy” – or stylized as “1nf1n73 84d 9uy” or “1 || Ph1 || 173 b4D 9U ‘/.”

You can head over to the app’s website, which will start by playing Billie Eilish’s original music video for “Bad Guy”. You then have the option of choosing one of the other two videos to start playing, which will continue playing where the previous video left off. “Infinite Bad Guy” uses machine learning to know where you are in the song and plays videos in sync to make every transition as smooth as possible.

To create this experience, Google Creative Lab had to perfectly align the audio of thousands of videos with different tempos, instruments, keys and styles. Conventional algorithms couldn’t do the trick on their own, so we turned to machine learning. For videos that deviated from the original track – like the acoustic or a cappella versions – we built a neural network that could predict matches between the covers and the original. With this data, we were able to line up all kinds of different covers and switch between them seamlessly.

To personalize your experience, you can choose to play only from categories such as drum covers, sign language, voice covers, rubber chickens, dog-focused videos, and more. To fully enjoy the endless experience with as little work as possible, you can use the autoplay option which automatically shuffles and plays all known covers of “Bad Guy”.

YouTube is able to deliver the “infinite” promise of “Infinite Bad Guy” based on the fact that it would take, by their calculations, 1.46 * 10¹⁰⁰ years to watch all possible combinations of “Bad” covers. Guy ”in the Seamless music video.
