YouTube users in several parts of the world on Wednesday encountered issues while playing videos on the site.
The site’s TeamYouTube account acknowledged the issues in a Twitter message. “If you are having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now, you are not alone – our team is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. We will follow up here with any updates,” tweeted at 7:23 p.m. ET.
According to monitoring site DownDetector, YouTube issues reported by users increased around 7 p.m. ET. The problems were most acute in the northeastern United States and western Europe, as well as in Mexico, Australia and South America. About 95% of the reported issues were with watching videos, according to DownDetector.
Users who tried to play videos on a YouTube video encountered a spinning wheel, the videos failing to start playing. The problems were evident on desktop and mobile applications. YouTube ads were also not loading during the technical outage.
