Continue on your computer where you left off on your phone
YouTube for desktop has been spotted with a new “keep watching” feature that should make it easier for you to pick up where you left off watching a video on another platform, like your phone or TV. It is not yet available to everyone and YouTube does not currently rank it among its ongoing experiments, but it has been spotted in the process of being rolled out.
Previously, moving a video with yourself to a new platform would have meant sharing a link via a roundabout method or manually browsing your YouTube video history to find it, but this new “keep watching” feature would make the playback pass mobile to almost instant desktop reading.
The feature was first spotted by 9to5Google employees and appears in the existing mini-player when navigating to the YouTube desktop site, loading the video you previously played on another platform seconds before. the break. “Continue Watching” appears under the video title in the player. If you want to continue playing, the behavior is the same as with the standard behavior of the mini-player: you can select playback and continue the video in the mini-player or select the “expand” button or the title area. from video to load this video list.
Close the miniplayer crop with the “continue watching” function displayed. Image via 9to5Google.
Again, the feature may not yet be available to everyone. (Anecdotally, it doesn’t show up on the connected YouTube site when I pause videos on an Android device that’s associated with the same Google account.) Other reports say the feature works while pausing. videos on iOS, Android and Android TV, but the “keep watching” half of the operation only works on the YouTube site – in other words, the functionality doesn’t work “both ways”.
