Although you can already play your own music files stored locally with YouTube Music, you can not do it from the application itself. Instead, you must use a file browser application to access these files and then read them.
This will soon change because Google will integrate a file browser directly into YouTube Music, which will allow you to play your files stored locally without leaving the application.
This new feature will bring YouTube Music closer to its replacement Google Play Music: Although there is still a long way to go before reaching parity of features with this other older product.

In the screen capture, you may notice the warning bar at the top. This statement lists the two main limitations to using YouTube Music to play your locally stored audio files:
- You can not mix your local files with playlists created with YouTube content.
- You can not stream content stored locally through YouTube Music.
These two limitations are rather annoying, especially if you consider that Google Play Music does not have the first. For the second limitation, GPM allows you to upload your local tracks to the service and then stream them easily. YouTube Music does not have this feature.
