YouTube Music is the latest Google app that comes with Android. The company announced that the subscription music service would be preinstalled on all devices running Android 10 – and that it will replace Google Play Music.

Until now, YouTube Music required a separate download from Google Play, but not anymore. The app will also be preloaded on new devices that come with Android 9 Pie in the future.

"Google Play Music listeners with new Android 10 devices can continue to enjoy Google Play Music by downloading it from the Play Store and signing in to their accounts," said YouTube Music Product Manager Brandon Bilinski. a blog post.

Since the launch of YouTube Music, Google has announced that this service will replace Google Play Music as the only subscription music platform. However, the company has been slow to integrate GPM users' downloads and libraries into YouTube Music, and users are unwilling to make that transition until the migration is successful. Whenever we receive news from YouTube Music, I ask the company for an update on progress and I usually get some form of "work in progress" in response.

Even before this new bundling, YouTube was aggressively advertising for its premium subscriptions in the hugely popular app, displaying frequent popup screens that touted the benefits of YouTube Premium. Pay for YouTube allows for an ad-free viewing experience, enables offline downloads, and includes a YouTube Music Premium subscription. But the pressure on YouTube Premium users has irritated some.
