Behind the scenes, Google requires that hardware manufacturers preinstall certain applications to access other proprietary services. YouTube Music is now on this list for newly launched Android 10 devices, while Play Music, which will soon be replaced, will be discontinued.
Google announced today that YouTube Music would be preinstalled on "all" new Android 9 and Android 10 devices, with the "pixel series" being explicitly verified by name. Described as a "personal guide through everyone's music", Google has summarized that existing features:

It's worth noting that YouTube Music is designed as an operating system-level feature, with "suggested actions in Smart Reply, enhanced tools for digital wellness, a dark theme, and more" .
The last line of today's announcement reveals how the pre-installation of YouTube Music is at the expense of Play Music, which will still be available via Google Play in manual installation:
Google Play Music listeners with new Android 10 devices can continue to enjoy Google Play Music by downloading it from the Play Store and logging into their accounts.
Google has explicitly explained the replacement of Play Music once feature parity, such as a cloud locker, has been reached. As the default audio app for Android, YouTube Music has been able to play local files since May. Overall, this initiative will help increase the use of YouTube Music and increase the chances of trying the paid service.
