Likely to help introduce new content to users, the desktop version of YouTube now shows a pop-up video preview player when you hover over site content.
We’re not sure exactly when this change happened, but in a similar fashion to the YouTube mobile app, you will now get a pop-up preview player that will start playing the videos in their entirety when you hover your cursor. mouse over the video. thumbnails. Previously, this only showed a silent looping gif of the video in question, but thanks to this change, videos are much more important.
Not only that, but you also have the option to toggle this mini player volume and all associated video captions. There is also the option to “Watch Later” or “Add to Queue” with the expanded three-dot menu that provides further options. You can even browse the content, so you can watch videos without ever leaving your home feed.
YouTube videos will continue to play in the background on startup via this new pop-up preview player, as long as you don’t hover over another video and start playback. It’s a nice addition, but not necessarily useful in all cases. You can see it in action below:
The change appears to be live on YouTube across multiple browsers and that added preview player could be a great way to get a taste of new content without necessarily needing to leave the safety of your regular content stream. It’s not often that we see major changes to YouTube’s desktop interface, so this is always a notable new feature that could come in handy and help you find even more new videos. to watch.
