YouTube Rewind is no more. After canceling last year’s rewind because no one wanted to go back to 2020, the company decided to cancel the rewind for good (maybe because 2020 never really ended, isn’t it). not?).
The annual roundup of creators and popular trends has been increasingly maligned over the years, culminating (or should I say, uh, valley?) In 2018 with what is literally the most hated video ever. posted on YouTube, over 19 years old. million aversions. You gotta fuck it up when you know you are Youtube. And the 2019 Rewind didn’t do much better.

The company confirmed to Tubefilter that it will no longer be making the compendium videos, which is particularly notable as this would have been Rewind’s 10th year.
For its part, YouTube says it doesn’t end the videos because of the reviews but, according to TubeFilter, because “because its platform has become so massive that it is impossible to sum up its vastness and diversity in a compilation of a few minutes. While this is true, it seems to me that has been the case for a long time – it was right before doing Rewind videos.
Instead, YouTube directs people to year-end videos made by creators with their own unique perspectives. I guess it’s safer than having a corporate giant trying to sum up everything that matters to their audience.
That said, YouTube doesn’t seem to be completely abandoning recaps. The company says it will “refocus [its] energies on celebrate you and the trends that make YouTube 🔥 with a different and up-to-date experience. “Either way, it can’t be worse than the latest flashbacks, can it?
