YouTuber eats 140,000 FF14 eggs in Big Twitch Marathon

I have often said that the best video game challenges are the ones we create ourselves. here is YouTuber Ross “Rubber Ninja” O’Donovan to prove me wrong. Last year the streamer did strange titles eating an entire stack of 999 eggs in Final Fantasy XIV. Now he eats it 140 times, which is worth a full inventory. That’s almost 140,000 eggs. he is all live streaming, and he only eats real egg dishes until he’s done. My stomach hurts just thinking about it.

The original Final fantasy egg consumption incident occurred in August of last year. As related in RubberNinja’s Twitter feed, when he logged in to the game on August 15, a stranger handed him a whole stack of eggs. When strangers hand you 999 eggs, you make FFXIV the story. RubberNinja started eating and tweeting, drawing a crowd into the game as her character smashed orbs of semi-gelatinous protein one by one. The whole process took about an hour and a half, and everyone had a great time.

Almost a year later, RubberNinja is seriously improving its game with 139,860 eggs in total. Instead of an informal in-game gathering, this egg-eating marathon is a live event broadcast on Twitch. He has rules. It has bonus feed sub-goals. It even has a name: “Eggwalker”.

The plan is to broadcast the eaten eggs until all the last are gone. The original 999 eggs took about 90 minutes to consume. This time, with 140 stacks of 999 eggs, if RubberNinja eats at the same rate as last year, we’re looking at 210 hours of ingestion and chewing. The event could go on for even longer, possibly forever, as he will add another stack of 999 eggs for every 1,000 Twitch subscriptions he earns during the marathon. If it hits 20,000 subs, it will shave its head to look like an egg.

In the interest of not falling to the dead, RubberNinja takes breaks during the stream to eat, shower, use the bathroom, and sleep. He set up a simple macro to keep his character nibbling eggs while he’s AFK, which has the added benefit of bypassing Final Fantasy XIVis inactive disconnect, recently activated to help combat server congestion and long connection queues.

I had planned to ask Ross “RubberNinja” O’Donovan a few questions, like why he’s doing this (besides the submarines), why would anyone do that, and basically yelling, “WHY?” on him until something happens. Unfortunately, I caught him during the nap, so I could only watch his character roboticly devour virtual eggs while a looping recording of O’Donovan saying “eggs” buzzed in the background.
