HOUSTON – Yankees' ace, Luis Severino, will return to New York City Monday night in Tampa, Florida, to get an MRI and be re-evaluated by the team's chief physician, Dr. Chris Ahmad said director Aaron Boone.
MRI and other tests will be performed on Tuesday.
Severino, who was arrested early March because of an inflammation of the rotator cuff in the right shoulder, does not suffer; but he's not where he wants to be, and the team wants a review to determine why he's not progressing as expected, Boone said before the Yankees' opening match in Houston.
The right-handed pitcher has long launched and launched from various distances since the end of last month. Over the weekend, he started throwing at 130 feet and, according to Boone, was doing some of his best rehabilitation work.
"He feels good, but why does he not get to the point where he says," Yes, let's go to the mound, let's go, "said Boone." So, we just want to make sure we we feel really good and that it really is. So, we're going to bring him to New York and get answers. "
Although the pain is not a problem, Boone said that Severino's arm was "not quite what it should be". Severino played for a long time on Saturday and felt good, but Boone said that he "did not feel as good" on Monday after playing ball, which led to the decision to send him back for additional tests.
Severino has not taken off the mound since he had a sore shoulder following a warm up before his first spring training on March 5th.
The Yankees first closed it for two weeks and scratched it early in the opening day. They had hoped that he could join the rotation in mid-April, but the managing director, Brian Cashman, subsequently pushed that limit back to May 1st.
"I hope it's just the fact that he's not yet able to overcome the bump," Boone said. "The tests we did with him put us in trust, but we have to make sure he's right."
Severino went 19-8 with an ERA 3.39 last season. Earlier this spring, he signed a $ 40 million four-year contract extension.
