Zach Braff has struck a deal to star with Gabrielle Union in Cheaper by the dozen, the reinvention of the 2003 hit comedy in development for Disney +.
Blackish creator Kenya Barris co-wrote the screenplay and produced the project which will be directed by Gail Lerner. Lerner worked with Barris on Blackish as executive writer-producer and director.
The story centers on a multiracial blended family of 12, leading a hectic family life while running their family business.
Braff will play the father in front of the Union as the mother.
Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt starred in the 2003 film directed by Shawn Levy and the sequel directed by Adam Shankman. The films were loose tales of a pair of blockbuster comedies from the early 1950s, based on the books of two siblings who wrote about their upbringing in a large family.
A debut in 2022 is planned for the new Dozen.
Braff is best known for starring in longtime NBC comedy, Scrubs. Most recently he appeared in independent films Percy and The return path, the latter a detective comedy starring Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones.
It is replaced by CAA and Management 360.
