Zack Wheeler He has always worked unhindered in the victory of the Mets 8-4 on the Nationals. The right handed 101 throws in 5.0 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while eliminating three.

"We won both these series … every time you can win a series, it's great," Wheeler said. "Usually you win two out of three, three out of four, so as long as you win games, I think you're going in the right direction."

The Mets have now won their last two series, both against their rivals. However, the team remains behind the Braves, Nationals and Phillies in the NL East standings.

"We are always happy with our chances, we have to fight, we have to win more games (…) We have to go and play well and fundamentally," said Wheeler.

As for the upcoming schedule, the Mets will begin a three-game series with the Phillies on Friday night at Citi Field, and will be looking to gain ground in the Wild Card standings.
