The Packers put pass thrower Za’Darius Smith on the injured list a few weeks ago with a back injury and he won’t be back anytime soon.
NFL Media reports that Smith had back surgery this week. He should be able to return to action at some point this season, but it will be a long time before Smith has a chance to pull it off.
Smith pulled off a tackle playing 18 defensive snaps in the season opener. The Packers have restructured Smith’s contract during the offseason and he is likely to come off this offseason unless the team treats his contract in another way.
Preston Smith and Rashan Gary are the best leading players in the Packers’ defense ahead of their week four game against the Steelers.
