Zelda fan reimagines what Breath of the Wild would look like with a street view a la Google Maps, with a panorama.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most popular games on Nintendo Switch. With many areas of the Hyrule Overworld containing hidden secrets for many players, this allows for experimentation and exploration. One fan thought it would be fun to re-imagine what Breath of the wild would look like if a website like Google Maps had been designed for it.
Nassim Software is a software designer and Zelda fan. One idea he came up with was the idea of creating something akin to Google Maps for Breath of the wild, where one could get a 360 degree image of a location when taken to a certain location. This set in motion the project of creating a Breath of the wild site with street view.
Nassim described the process of recreating something similar to the Google Maps street view as tedious. One of the first challenges was to define the scope of the project, focusing on Breath of the wild because of its aesthetics and pleasing images. The next part was to get screenshots of the game to create the necessary panoramic view. This required the use of a Wii U emulator and mods to take the many photos that would be stitched together to form the street view of the game’s locations.
After a bit of coding and map creation, the result is a believable replica of Google Maps. This includes using the zoom on the map and fans can visit some of the breathtaking locations of Breath of the wild and see them in a beautiful 360 ° panoramic view. Some of the landmarks in the game can be visited, such as Mount Hylia and Hyrule Field. Additionally, submissions for more locations and photos to add are open for input from other fans, as a project like this is quite difficult for one person to maintain.
After being shared on Reddit, fans praised the job well done, many appreciating exploring Hyrule in this way. Nassim goes on to say that he will use this experience to continue working on other projects similar to this one. Although this is not the first Zelda-themed thing connected to Google Maps, it is certainly one of the most ambitious.
