“You also have to remember that people grew up with me when I was a kid,” Zendaya explained. “It’s like watching, I guess, your younger brother now, you know they’re adults… so it’s hard for people to understand that I’m grown up in real life. You know, even though I still play a teenager on TV, ”she added, referring to her role as Rue Bennett on HBO. Euphoria.

Meanwhile, the Zendaya co-star admits he “didn’t know what the industry was going to look like.” Washington, who plays filmmaker Malcolm in the Netflix movie, told E! News Wednesday: “I didn’t know if I was going to get the opportunity to do what I love to do the most, which is take action.”

In a previous interview published on January 12 with Variety, Washington defended his age gap with Zendaya and noted that he was “really excited for people to see when the movie comes out how mature she is in this role.” The actor and son of Denzel Washington went on to explain that audiences “are going to see in this film how much of a woman she is.”

“She has a lot more experience in the industry than I do,” Washington said. Variety at the time. “I’ve only been there seven years. She’s been there longer, so I’m learning from her. I am the recruit.

He continued, “Some of the stories she shared about what she had to go through with Twitter and everything,” noting recent fan concerns. “I appreciated his wisdom and insight in this area. I admire it.
