Zoom to lift 40-minute limit on free meetings for Thanksgiving

To help families stay connected at a time when it’s unsafe to travel, Zoom is lifting its usual 40-minute limit on free video chats for Thanksgiving. As spotted by The edge, from midnight on November 26 until 6 a.m. ET on November 27, you and your family can talk through the app for as long as you want. The company announced the goodwill measure earlier in the week.

A 40-minute limit on free calls has been a feature of Zoom throughout the pandemic. Most of the company’s counterparts have similar limits on free accounts. Google Meet, for example, limits your calls to 60 minutes without paying a subscription. In most cases, people have bypassed the limit by starting a new call after starting from their current call. The good thing about this gesture is that you won’t need to do it. With the number of active coronavirus cases continuing to rise in many parts of the United States, it is also prudent to ensure that people stay at home and protect loved ones.
