Zydeco musician Chris Ardoin was shot in the back and was hospitalized while performing at an event in Colfax, Louisiana, his wife said in a Facebook statement.

Ardoin was the Friday headliner at Zydeco Bike Fest when he was shot in the back. Ardoin’s wife Kerri posted on his official Facebook page at 3.36am on Saturday and said he was punched on the right side while performing.

“The doctors have said, luckily, he’s a built guy. The bullet did not penetrate his lungs and came to rest near his ribs … Please keep him in your prayers and I will keep you posted later! she wrote.

The shooting took place in Colfax, Louisiana, at the Louisiana Mudfest, an ATV and mud park where the weekend festival was being held. Ardoin was the headliner on Friday, with Lil Nate and the Zydeco Big Timers scheduled to perform on Saturday night. Lil Nate posted on Facebook on Saturday morning that his group was canceling their performance.

Grant Parish’s sheriff’s office said in a statement it responded to the park overnight after receiving reports of several people shooting at a crowd. They said two people were hit by the gunfire and sustained moderate injuries, including a 14-year-old child.

Law enforcement officials said hundreds of vehicles attempted to leave at the same time as people fled in panic. Two people armed with rifles were arrested as they tried to escape by jumping onto the steps of a moving vehicle. The identities of those arrested have not been disclosed to police, and it has not been confirmed whether they were the accused shooters who injured Ardoin and the unidentified child.
