ZZ Top has performed live for the first time since the death of longtime band member Dusty Hill.
The group, with the addition of Elwood Francis, performed on Friday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
“We’re going to have a great time here tonight,” Billy Gibbons reportedly told the crowd at the show, according to UltimateClassicRock.com. “I have a new guy here, as you know. Dusty gave me the directive. My friend, your mate, Elwood Francis is going to keep him behind me.”
“What about that Elwood? Ripping that bottom out there for Dusty,” Gibbons said later on the show, according to the outlet.

ZZ Top announced Hill’s sudden death on Wednesday.

“We are saddened by the news today that our companion, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at his home in Houston, TX,” the group said in a statement to Fox News. “We, and legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will regret your unwavering presence, your good nature, and your enduring commitment to providing this monumental background to ‘Top’.”
“We will forever be connected to this ‘Blues Shuffle in C’,” the statement continued. “We will miss you very much, amigo.”

No cause of death for Hill has been given. The guitarist had recently had a health issue related to a hip problem, the band previously had revealed, adding that they expected “a speedy recovery” and hoped “to recover it immediately”.
