Emergency personnel responded Thursday afternoon after two people were found shot dead in a vehicle near Goleta.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department

Sheriff’s assistants, county firefighters and AMR ambulances were dispatched shortly after 12:30 p.m. to the 600 block of Burtis Street near Hollister Elementary School.

They found two victims in a vehicle, a late-model Audi sedan, Raney said.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

MPs set up a perimeter around the scene and were looking for a single suspect who had fled on foot, Raney said.

He added that the suspect – described as a white man in his twenties with dark hair, possibly wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt – is considered “armed and dangerous”.

A sheriff’s helicopter and K-9 crews were also reportedly brought in to help with the search.

Meanwhile, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents south of Hollister Avenue, between Patterson Avenue and Turnpike Road.

The neighborhood involved retreated to Atascadero Creek then More Mesa, and deputies scoured the area in search of a suspect.

The shooting was reported by a miner who rushed into the office at Hollister School, Raney said.

Further details were not immediately available.
