ALBANY – Albany County recorded 100 new cases of coronavirus overnight, county executive Dan McCoy said at a Thanksgiving Day briefing.
New positive cases in November alone represented more than a third of the total number of cases since the pandemic began in March, McCoy said.
A man in his 80s died of COVID-19 overnight Wednesday, bringing the total death toll to 151, McCoy said, adding that there were still 41 people hospitalized and 10 in the intensive care unit .
For the fourth day in a row, the county’s seven-day moving average positivity rate remains at 3%. If the county hits 10 days in a row with a 3% positivity rate, the state could impose restrictions on “microcluster” areas.
“What people did last night, today and the next few days will determine what our positive numbers will push forward in a yellow zone,” McCoy said. “Please do the right thing.”
Sheriff Craig Apple also attended the briefing. He pointed out that the sheriff’s department does not have the resources to very check the home which may have more than 10 people inside.
“We don’t have time,” Apple said of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s assembly limits. “It comes down to personal responsibility.”
