14-inch MacBook Pro processor will be identical to 16-inch – leak

A leaker with a good track record indicates that the upcoming 14-inch Apple Silicon MacBook Pro processor will be identical to that of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

This would represent a significant change from the Intel Macs, where Apple reserved the fastest processors for the bigger machines …

The current 13-inch Intel MacBook Pro, for example, has a high-end configuration of a 2.3 GHz i7 processor; Iris Plus graphics processor; 32 GB of RAM; and 4TB SSD. The 16-inch model, on the other hand, peaks with a 2.4GHz i9 processor; Radeon Pro 5600M; 64 GB of RAM; and 8TB SSD.

Originally a Twitter user Dylan said the two machines would have the same “performance”, but later clarified that he was only referring to the M1X chip, which will be at full power for both models.

He said the change would be welcomed by those who prefer the portability of a smaller machine, but still want the highest level of performance.

It’s heartwarming that both MacBook Pros arriving this fall will have the same chip and performance. This is definitely a win for those who like to go for the smaller size […]

Just so everyone understands I’m referring to the 16 inch and 14 inch pros both having the same M1X.

The addendum would therefore still leave open the possibility of different GPU and storage options, although the RAM is built into the CPU, the same options may apply to both models.

Dylan warned that there was no free lunch and that having the same processor as the 16-inch machine would result in “a noticeable increase in price” over the current 13-inch. The existing 13-inch Model M1 MacBook Pro starts at $ 1,299, while the Intel version starts at $ 1,799.

All leakers have mixed backgrounds, but Dylan was right in his tweets about the new iMac M1 and the 2021 iPad Pro.

We still do not know how to expect new machines. Bloomberg indicated that we can expect them anytime between September and November. They have, however, been spotted in regulatory files and supply chain sources say production is underway.

We’re waiting for a new design, reflecting the current square-edged design language of current iPhones and iPads; a mini-LED screen; a fast SD card slot, among other new ports; and a 1080p webcam, finally.

Even though the 14in MacBook Pro processor and other specs are the same as the 16in, I will always personally go for the larger screen model because I want the biggest screen possible when traveling. I expect, however, to have to prepare for the price!
